Lo Gung has some seriously talented family members. Did I ever tell you? Besides producing parents who are model Perfect In-Laws, he managed to procure a girl cousin who is insanely good at the piano. Like started-when-she-was-5 good. Like does-big-performances-good.
Like Wins-Concerto-Competitions and Headlines-With-The-Seattle-Symphony good.
True story.
Since we happen to live not-too-far from Seattle, her mother rounded up five tickets and invited MaMa (Grandma), YehYeh (Grandpa), Lo Gung, Ming Wai and myself to come listen to the performance. (Along with 15-20 friends and family from their crew in Richmond, BC.) We were quite a group!
Siu Jeun stayed home and played ball with my (saintly) father, and Ming Wai went to her first symphony concert. It was a program geared for kids, and ending with an instrumental version of Dr. Seuss’s My Many Colored Days. Ming Wai was very impressed that the princess (Natalie) came out to talk to us afterwards, and we got to take lots of pictures. Everyone was so proud of her – she’s only 17! The highlight of my day, though, was when some sweet Chinese girls approached Ming Wai and I. One got down low and told Ming Wai she was very pretty, and could they please take a picture? It was a funny end to a great day – Ming Wai had garnered some fans of her own at the symphony that day!
How lovely! And I had to laugh about the princess: when I was dressed as Marie Antoinette for a Moliere play a few summers ago, Jarrah and Joy wanted their photo with "the princess," too. Never mind that they knew who I really was. ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your 1,000th post! And your "non-pervy" (hee!) names!
What a neat concert for BBJ!
ReplyDeleteI totally missed the pervy name bit. Oh dear. Here's to 1,001!
